  The Parks
Jackson has plenty going for it, but its proximity to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks just might be its best feature. With stunning, untouched natural beauty just out the back door, it's easy to see why so many visitors fall in love and simply can't resist coming back year after year - or moving here permanently!

Here are some ideas for what to see in each of the parks while you're in town.

The Parks
Grand Teton National Park (GTNP)
With the rugged, dramatic Teton Mountain Range soaring in the backdrop, GTNP may have you mesmerized before you even step foot on its winding pathways. For newcomers, a quick stop at the visitor's center in Moose (on your way into the park) is a good idea. You'll get a chance to check out different points of interest, find the best scenic overlooks, and get advice on which trails might suit you best (or feel free to ask a local - we all have our favorite hikes and will be happy to share with you). Favorite hikes and excursions include taking the Jenny Lake Boat Shuttle across to the far end of the lake, then hiking a short distance to Hidden Falls. There are also kayak rentals on Jenny Lake, for those who prefer a more hands-on approach. You can drive up to the overlook above Signal Mountain, then enjoy lunch at Signal Mountain Lodge. Or you can make a day of it, finishing in fine fashion in the Jackson Lake Lodge's grand dining room, gazing out at some of the best Teton Mountain Views imaginable.

Yellowstone National Park
This legendary park is worthy of every awe-inspired adjective that's ever been used to describe it. From the herds of bison to the gushing geysers, shooting steaming water up into the air, the park's many natural attractions are a national treasure. Old Faithful is on everyone's list, and it's definitely worth seeing; just be sure you time it right, since it goes off about ever 80 minutes. Or head further north to Mammoth Hot Springs, where the natural hot water springs carry dissolved limestone, which is deposited on the surface, magically turning gorgeous colors. Gray wolves and grizzly bears are another one of the park's featured attractions, and the Lamar Valley is a good place to see both. The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone can be your final stop; the best viewing is available at Artist Point, where a half-mile walk takes you down to the very edge of the thunderous, crashing water.
