Skiing
Skiing is by far the most popular attraction in winter, and our two
closest ski areas offer a wide range of terrain for skiers of all
levels. Snow King was Jackson's first ski resort, opened in 1939 with
only a rope tow. It's the more affordable option, and it's in town.
But it's Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village that's earned
Jackson a spot high on the short list of legendary ski resorts. The
resort is a short 15 minute drive out of the town of Jackson, and
for powder hounds there's nowhere else to be from December to early
April. Care for a more mellow skiing experience? Rent cross-country
skis at Skinny Skis in town and go for a mellow tour along the Snake
River.

Snow Shoeing
Snow shoeing is a fantastic way to see the natural beauty of the Jackson
Hole area while getting a terrific workout. It's a fun activity for
beginners as well as those with experience - sure, you may fall over
or be a little unsteady at first, but the snow all around makes it
pretty fun and comfortable when you do lose your balance. Snow shoes
can be rented at several places around town, including Skinny Skis
and at the Nordic Center in Teton Village.

Elk Refuge Sleigh Ride
Most locals will tell you: No trip to Jackson in winter would be complete
without a sleigh ride through the elk refuge! The horse-drawn sleigh
rides offer an unmatched opportunity to get close to the thousands
of elk that winter in the elk refuge, just north of town (you drove
right by the refuge on your way into Jackson from the airport). Extremely
knowledgeable tour guides answer any and all questions during the
one-hour rides. There are about four tours per hour during the winter
months.
